Much Awaited SARTHINI Scheme Formally Inaugurated at Govindnagar Gram Panchayat

Sri Vijaya Puram Aug. 30: The much-awaited SARTHINI Scheme, aimed at empowering women through skill development and self-reliance, was formally inaugurated today at Govindnagar Gram Panchayat, Swaraj Dweep. The scheme focuses on providing Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Driving Training Classes exclusively for women, enabling them to gain access to better livelihood opportunities and promote safe, independent mobility.

The inaugural program witnessed enthusiastic participation of local women, panchayat representatives, and officials from the Transport Department and RSETI, State Bank of India. The scheme has been specially designed to encourage women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to take up driving as a professional skill, thereby enhancing their employability in sectors like transport, tourism, logistics, and related services.

The program was graced by Shri B Binoy, Deputy Director, Dept of Transport, Smt Debjyani Sikder, Samiti Member, Shyamnagar Panchayat, Smt Mamta Mondal, Up-Pradhan, Govindnagar Gram Panchayat, Shri C Raj, Director, RSETI, Shri P K Ummer Farooq, Chief Manager, UTLBC and Shri Ravisankar, Chief Manager, Lead Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasized that SARTHINI is more than just a driving training initiative. It is a step towards women’s empowerment, gender equality, and economic inclusion in the islands. The scheme is expected to create a positive impact by opening new avenues of income generation and by strengthening women’s participation in community development.

The program concluded with an orientation session for the first batch of trainees, who expressed great excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.

The SARTHINI Scheme stands as a milestone initiative in Swaraj Dweep, paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered society.
