Nicobari Hodie Ride Revived at Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 8: In a proud and inspiring step to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Nicobari community, the traditional Nicobari Hodie ride is being restarted at the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, Port Blair, from 12 April, onwards where tourists can enjoy this unique experience at a nominal charge.

The Nicobari Hodie is not just a canoe, it is a strong symbol of the deep connection between the Nicobarese people and the sea. For generations, the Hodie has represented courage, unity, craftsmanship, and the spirit of island life. Its revival is a tribute to the knowledge and traditions passed down by our ancestors.

This initiative marks a meaningful step towards empowering the Nicobari tribal community. By creating livelihood opportunities for youth and families, it brings dignity through tradition and opens new doors through community-based tourism. It is a powerful example of how cultural heritage can shape a sustainable and self-reliant future.

The tribal community expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the A&N Administration and the Directorate of Tourism for their continued support and encouragement in bringing forward the skills rooted in traditional knowledge and promoting them to the world.

Through this revival, we aim to share the vibrant and rich culture of the Nicobari people with visitors from across the country and beyond. More importantly, it inspires the younger generation to reconnect with their roots, take pride in their identity, and carry forward the legacy of their ancestors.

Residents, tourists, and culture lovers are warmly invited to witness and experience this extraordinary tradition and be part of a journey that blends heritage with hope.

This initiative reminds us that traditions are not just part of the past they are living symbols of identity, strength, and opportunity for the future.
