
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 13: A scientist from the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Scientist-F and Officer-in-Charge of its field Centre, the Atal Centre for Ocean Science and Technology for Islands (ACOSTI) at Sri Vijaya Puram, has been selected to receive the prestigious K Chidambaram Memorial Award for 2024. He received the award during a ceremony held on July 12 at the Commissionerate of Fisheries, Chennai.
The award is presented annually by the Fisheries Technocrats Forum, Chennai, in recognition of outstanding contributions in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture, marine science, and allied sectors. Named in honour of the late K Chidambaram, who served in key positions within the Fisheries Departments of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and the Union Government, the award acknowledges excellence and innovation in the sector.
Dr. Jha has been recognized for his significant contributions in the areas of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Geographical Information System (GIS), and Hydrological Studies, particularly concerning the Indian mainland coast and oceanic islands. He is one of four distinguished scientists and academicians selected for the 2024 award.
