Operation Coral Shield Concludes with Apprehension of 10 Myanmarese Poachers and 800 Kg of Sea Cucumber

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 27: During the Anti-Poaching ‘Operation Coral Shield’ launched along the western coast of the North Andaman Islands on 01.12.2025 based on credible information received from local fishermen, as a result of sustained surveillance, meticulous area domination and consistent operational pressure ultimately compelled the last remaining poacher of the group to surrender at LOP Burmanallah on 24.12.2025, with the assistance of villagers from Pan Nallah.

The operation concluded and achieved 100% success, resulting in the apprehension of all 10 Myanmarese poachers, along with the seizure of 01 engine dinghy and approx. 800 kg of Sea Cucumber. With this, the cumulative seizure for the current year stands at 47 Myanmarese poachers apprehended, 06 engine dinghies seized and approx. 1,500 kg of Sea Cucumber recovered.

The operation demonstrated the exceptional courage, endurance and professionalism of the A&N Police, comprising personnel from PS Kalighat, OP Kishorinagar, PS Mayabunder, and PS Diglipur, along with personnel from IRBn, PMF, and Home Guard Volunteers, who maintained round-the-clock surveillance and conducted intensive tracking and combing operations for nearly a month, covering approximately 200 sq. km of dense jungle and coastal terrain in close coordination with local fishermen and villagers of Coffee Dera, Pan Nallah and nearby areas.

The entire operation was carried out under the able guidance of Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterate their unwavering commitment to protecting marine and forest biodiversity, preventing illegal trespassing and poaching, and ensuring strong territorial and environmental security across the ecologically sensitive regions of the islands.
