
Diglipur, Jan 15: PM SHRI Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sitanagar, celebrated its Annual Athletic Meet at Vivekanand Stadium on Tuesday with vibrant sporting events and colourful cultural programmes, showcasing the multifaceted talents of its students.
Inaugurating the mega sporting event of the region, the Chief Guest, Divisional Forest Officer Dr. S.H.K. Murti, lauded the enthusiasm and sporting spirit of the students. Referring to the naming of the four school houses after eminent Indian sportspersons-Mary Kom, P.V. Sindhu, Harmanpreet Singh and Neeraj Chopra, he said it reflected the students’ deep admiration for sports and sporting values.
Dr. Murti specially appreciated the Living Sculpture performance on Operation Sindoor, presented by students Shristy Mistry (Class IX), Koyal Murshid (Class X) and T. Riya (Class XI). The act, depicting the heroics of women fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force, drew thunderous applause from the audience. He also expressed happiness over the growing number of talented sportspersons from the Diglipur region who have brought laurels at state-level competitions in recent times.
The Living Sculpture performance, directed by Teacher Shri Srinivasa Rao, featured three girl students painted in metallic earthen hues, standing motionless like statues to symbolise fighter pilots involved in Operation Sindoor. Remaining silent throughout, the performers conveyed courage, sacrifice and heroism through posture and expression, while a background narration with war sound effects powerfully highlighted the bravery of the pilots, leaving the audience emotionally moved.
The aerobics display, yoga drill and folk dances representing various Indian states, performed by hundreds of students in perfect coordination and synergy, were a visual treat. The march-past also received wide appreciation for its discipline and precision.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Principal of the school, Shri Balbir Singh, said the institution has been consistently channeling students’ energy towards sports, fostering discipline, sportsmanship and moral values. He informed that Sumit Das of Class X won a gold medal in cycling at the recent State School Games held at Sri Vijaya Puram and has been selected for the National Camp, calling it a matter of great pride for the school.
A total of 47 athletic events in different categories were conducted during the meet. P.V. Sindhu House emerged as the overall champion. Aryan Sarkar clinched the Individual Championship in the boys’ category, while Diya Bepari bagged the Individual Champion title among girls.
Special guests, including Deputy Education Officer Smti Sulochana, Assistant Conservator of Forests Shri Shivendra Mehta, Pradhan of Subhash Gram Panchayat Shri P.R. Singaram, Pradhan of Sitanagar Shri Biplab Mondal, and Vice Chairman of the School Management Committee Shri Satyajit Baidya, distributed prizes to the winners.
Parents turned up in large numbers to witness and encourage the sporting and cultural talents of their children, adding to the enthusiasm of the event.
