Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 8: PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Ramkrishnapur, has brought laurels to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by winning a National Award under the prestigious Wipro Earthian 2025 Programme. A team of students from the school was selected at the national level for their exemplary sustainability project, addressing sustainability issues within the school campus and the surrounding community.
The Wipro Earthian Programme is one of India’s leading sustainability education initiatives, encouraging school students to engage with real-life environmental challenges related to Waste, Water, and Biodiversity. The 2025 edition witnessed an overwhelming response from across the country, with over 2,000 schools submitted project reports. Following multiple rounds of rigorous evaluation, an eminent national jury shortlisted 25 winning teams representing all states, comprising both government and private schools.
The Ramkrishnapur school project was appreciated for its depth of exploration, thoughtful reflection, and systematic reporting, highlighting practical sustainability interventions. From the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 104 project submissions were received during the 2025–26 edition. Of these, 15 projects were shortlisted for national-level consideration. The 15 projects and five additional projects were recognised as Regional Winners. PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Ramkrishnapur emerged as one of the National Award Winners.
The Sustainability Education Programme has been implemented in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands since 2015 by the C. P. R. Environmental Education Centre (CPREEC), Chennai, in collaboration with the Wipro Foundation and the Science Wing of the Department of Education.
As part of the award, the school will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000, along with a memento and citation from the Wipro Foundation, Bengaluru. Certificates will also be awarded to all student team members.
The Wipro Earthian National Award Ceremony will be held from 29th to 31st January 2026 at the Azim Premji University Campus, Bengaluru, all team members along with their guide teacher have been invited to participate in the ceremony and associated learning engagements.
Participation in this prestigious event is expected to further strengthen sustainability education and environmental stewardship among school students in the Islands.
