
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20: A one-day “Gender Sensitization Workshop” was organized at the Police Training School, Sri Vijaya Puram, on 20th November 2025 in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi, to strengthen gender-sensitive and citizen-centric policing among Andaman & Nicobar Police personnel.
The workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Smt. Vijaya K. Rahatkar, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest and formally opened the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Smti Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Training), senior officers of A&N Police and dignitaries from NCW. In her inaugural address, she highlighted the vital importance of gender-sensitive policing in safeguarding the rights and dignity of women and other vulnerable sections of society, and underscored the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to demonstrate empathy, fairness and professionalism in all interactions.

Shri Uma Shankar, DANIPS, Principal, Police Training School, delivered the welcome address and briefed the gathering about the objectives, content and schedule of the workshop. He emphasized that such initiatives are pivotal in fostering progressive, citizen-centric and accountable policing practices aligned with societal expectations and constitutional mandates.
The Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, presented a momentous memento of A&N Police to the Chief Guest as a token of respect and appreciation. Altogether, 70 police personnel, from the ranks of Inspector to Constable, attended the workshop in person. In addition, about 1000 Police Personnel from all 21 Police Stations and Units of A&N Police participated by joining in virtual mode.
The programme concluded with a structured feedback interaction, followed by the distribution of certificates to all participants.
