
Mayabunder, Feb 5: On 05/02/2026, the PMF team of Mayabunder received a distress call regarding a fishing trawler that had become disabled and was drifting dangerously near Oliver Island due to a gear box failure. Responding promptly, a rescue team comprising of SI(M) Vijay, SI(ED) P.K Dwivedi, HCs Morison, M. Gopi, Ratan Jha and HGVs Saw Bibitoo & PNS Vishal were deployed onboard FIB M.V. Sher Ali to render immediate assistance to the distressed vessel.
After conducting a systematic search operation in the surrounding waters, the disabled fishing trawler M.V. Sarveshwaran (IND-AN-SA-MM-2050), carrying five crew members, was successfully located. The crew reported that the vessel had suffered a gear box burst at around 0300 hrs while engaged in fishing at sea, following which it lost propulsion and continued drifting towards Oliver Island.

Considering the safety of the crew and the risk posed by prevailing sea conditions, the PMF team secured the distressed trawler and safely towed it to Mayabunder main Jetty. The vessel was berthed safely without any injury to the crew or damage to property.
The rescue and assistance operation was carried out efficiently and professionally by the PMF team, reflecting their preparedness, vigilance, and commitment to ensuring maritime safety in the region.
