Diglipur, Nov. 11: To conquer the menace of illicit ganja in N&M Andaman District, PS Kalighat proved their mettle once again by ongoing tough against the drug peddlers.
On 10/11/2025, based on credible information received, a raiding team led by SI Shibendra Nath Halder, SHO, PS Kalighat conducted a raid in the Ward No.3, Kalighat. The team, which included HCs Ashok Samaddar, HC (IRBN) Santosh Kr. Nair, PCs Samresh Mistry, Ranjit Biswas, Sujit Kumar & Elieen along with two independent witnesses, was supervised by Shri. Chandan G.S, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur.
The team reached the suspected house at Ward No.3, Kalighat and conducted a thorough search of the surrounding premises. During the search, at the backside of the vegetable garden, the team successfully confiscated 01 cannabis plants weighing 1.200 kg approx., upon enquiring about the plant, the accused namely Kiran Barman S/o Late Kalipada Barman (37 yrs), Cultivator, R/o Kalighat, Ward No. 3 admitted to planting the cannabis and revealed that he had cultivated and nurtured the seized ganja plant for his personal use and sometimes served to his nearby friends on payments.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested and a case was registered at PS Kalighat under the relevant section of NDPS Act.
