SDM South Andaman Reviews Progress of Administrative Activities to Strengthen Grassroot Governance in Little Andaman

Hutbay, Nov. 13: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), South Andaman District, Shri Kamaleshwar Rao S, IAS, undertook an official visit to Little Andaman Island today to oversee a series of key administrative activities aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and ensuring prompt redressal of public grievances.

As part of the visit, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate supervised and conducted the election for the post of Up-Pradhan (2025–2027) of Ramkrishnapur Gram Panchayat. The election proceedings were carried out in a free, fair and transparent manner in strict adherence to the provisions of the Panchayati Raj framework.

Shri Tarak Sarkar was elected as the Up-Pradhan, Ramkrishnapur Gram Panchayat. Following the declaration of results, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate administered the oath of allegiance to the newly elected Up-Pradhan in the presence of Panchayat members, local residents and officials of the Rural Development Department thereby reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to upholding democratic processes at the grassroots level.

In continuation of the visit, SDM (SA) also convened a Camp Court at the Office of the Tehsildar, Little Andaman, for the expeditious disposal of land diversion cases. A total of 18 cases were heard, providing immediate relief to applicants and reducing pendency.

The visit further included interaction with local residents, review of ongoing development works and meetings with Panchayat representatives and field-level officials to assess the progress of various Government schemes and address local grievances.
