Mayabunder, Nov. 8: As part of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a special commemorative programme was jointly organized by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), and the District Administration, North & Middle Andaman, at Mayabunder today. The event began with a padyatra (Unity March) from Danapur Junction to the Mini Stadium, Mayabunder Bazaar.
The programme aimed to honor the life and contributions of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and to promote the spirit of unity, integrity, and nationalism among the youth and the local community. A large number of participants, including students, officials, and members of the public, took part in the event with great enthusiasm.
Shri S. Krishna Chaitanya, Assistant Commissioner, Mayabunder, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Smt. Lata Hedge Prasad, IFS, DFO, Mayabunder, was the guest of honour.
The chief guest administered the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) pledge, urging all participants to contribute towards building a self-reliant and united nation. He also flagged off the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rally, from Danapur Junction to Netaji Stadium, Mayabunder. Dignitaries paid glowing tributes by garlanding Patel’s portrait. The gathering also joined in singing ‘Vande Mataram’, marking the 150th year of India’s national song.
Students from Mahatma Gandhi Government College presented a vibrant cultural programme highlighting themes of patriotism and national unity. Prizes and certificates were distributed to winners of various pre-event activities such as essay writing, quiz competitions, elocution contests, health camps, and cleanliness drives organized as part of the commemoration.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Shri Sukharanjan Biswas, Joint Director, Mera Yuva Bharat highlighted the significance of celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri K. Chithravelu, Pradhan, Mayabunder, who expressed gratitude to all Departments, Panchayats, and participants for their cooperation and contribution.
