Sports Day Races for School Students at Diglipur Witness Energetic Participation

Diglipur, Aug 31: Sportsmanship and youthful energy were on full display as the zonal-level Sports Competitions for school students were held at Diglipur today. The event, organized in connection with National Sports Day commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary Hockey Wizard Major Dhyan Chand, drew an impressive number of student participants from across the region.

The highlight of the day was the Road Race competitions, organized by the Office of the Deputy Education Officer. Both races were flagged off from the Vivekananda Stadium amidst loud cheers and excitement.

In the Boys’ 10 km race, covering the route from the stadium to Keralpuram School and back, Amit Das of GSS Keralpuram outpaced his rivals to claim the top spot. He was closely followed by Prasoon Das of GSSS Swarajgram, who secured second place, while Amit Ekka of PM SHRI Subhashgram bagged third position after a spirited run.

The Girls’ category was equally thrilling, with Rochina Mal of GSSS Diglipur finishing first in an impressive display of stamina and determination. Her schoolmate Piyou Das came in second, while Ishwari Beck of PM SHRI GMSSS Sitanagar won third place, drawing appreciation from the spectators.

At the prize distribution ceremony, Deputy Education Officer Mrs. Sulochana, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, felicitated the winners with trophies. In her address, she expressed great satisfaction at the growing enthusiasm among students for sports and physical activities. She urged them to make fitness a part of their daily lives while maintaining a healthy balance with academics, underlining that such participation nurtures discipline, teamwork, and overall development.

More than 95 student-athletes, including over 50 girls from various schools of the Diglipur region, took part in the competitions, making the day a memorable celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and determination.
