
Sri Vijaya Puram, March 2: The Department of Science and Technology, A&N Administration, celebrated National Science Day on Feb.28. The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across the islands. As part of the celebrations, an Inter College Student Science Seminar on the theme ‘Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat’ was organised at TGCE. Around 200 students and faculty members from various colleges of the A&N Islands attended the seminar and benefitted from the deliberations.
Dr. P. Prabhu, Scientist (Plant Genetic Resources), ICAR–Central Agricultural Research Institute, motivated students by highlighting recent achievements in science. A painting competition on the theme “Science for a Sustainable Future” and a quiz competition was organised for college-level students at the DST Campus. In the painting competition, Ms. S. Jeevatha (ANCOL) secured the 1st prize, Ms. Gubbala Lakshmi Kalyani (DBRAIT) won the 2nd prize, Ms. B. Vidya Kumari (TGCE) secured the 3rd prize, and Ms. Rithika Ojha (Laksh Institute of Shiksha) received the consolation prize.
In the quiz competition, J. Dinesh and G. Deepak (DBRAIT) won the 1st prize, Munthana Parvin and B. Mukind Rao (DIET) secured the 2nd prize, while Ms. Rikta Biswas and Ms. Preethi Mazumder (TGCE) secured the 3rd prize.
In the Inter College Student Science Seminar, Adil Shah (TGCE) won the 1st prize, Ms. P. Aliya Majeed (Andaman Law College) secured the 2nd prize, Ms. Afreen (ANCOL) won the 3rd prize, and A. Varun Kumar (TGCE) received the consolation prize.
The week-long celebration concluded with prize distribution and a renewed commitment to promote scientific temper and encourage greater participation of women in science towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
