Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 4: The Students Federation of India has urged the Lt Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands to direct the authorities concerned to conduct the examination for the 1st year students of 2025-26 academic session of Andaman Law College through the Pondicherry University as has been done in all other colleges. In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor, Convener of SFI Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee Abdul Warish said that all the higher educational institutions in A & N Islands were affiliated with the Pondicherry University since 1988 which was established through an Act passed in the Parliament (Pondicherry University Act, 1985) for union territories of Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
SFI Convener said that with vested interests and to commercialize higher education in the islands, the Govt. of India and A & N Administration imposed a Deemed University on the islanders without anybody demanding it. Subsequently, all the 7 colleges were brought under the newly established Deemed University, disaffiliating the colleges from the Pondicherry University. However, the examinations of the students continued to be conducted by Pondicherry University, and the students were enrolled as if the colleges were still under the Pondicherry University.
Abdul Warish brought to the notice of the Lt Governor that the 1st year students of the 2025-26 session in the Andaman Law College were also enrolled as students of Pondicherry University. However, it has been recently revealed that the examinations for the 1st year students of 2025-26 academic session will be conducted by the Deemed University, not by the Pondicherry University. On knowing this, the students at Andaman Law College started agitation in the College campus, paralyzing studies on 3rd February 2026. However, the examinations for all other colleges for 1st year students of 2025-26 academic session have been conducted by Pondicherry University.
