
Bakultala, Oct. 30: A group of students from Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Bakultala visited ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North & Middle Andaman on 30th October 2025 as part of an educational excursion/study trip to gain the practical knowledge in the field of agriculture.
At the outset, Mr. Rakesh Dawar, SMS (Agronomy), welcomed the students and introduced to various activities and facilities of the KVK, including crop demonstrations, fisheries, farm mechanization, integrated farming systems, and vermicomposting units. They also learned about modern agricultural practices, climate-resilient technologies, and the importance of sustainable farming for ensuring food and nutritional security.
Dr. V. Damodaran, Senior Scientist and Head, elaborated the students about the mandate, role of KVK in disseminating the latest technologies to the farming communities, and major activities of the KVK, along with various welfare programmes implemented for the benefit of farmers. Further, he has also highlighted about the career opportunities in agriculture and allied sciences, the role of science and technology in farming, and the contribution of KVKs in rural development. The visit aimed to inspire young minds towards agriculture and allied sectors, fostering awareness about innovation and skill development in farming
As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign and Vigilance Awareness Week 2025, the students were also sensitized about the necessity of cleanliness in their surroundings, importance of vigilance and their role in promoting integrity and transparency in society. The accompanying teachers appreciated the efforts of the KVK team for sharing valuable knowledge and providing practical exposure to the students.
The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. A total of 105 students and teachers participated in the visit.
