Students from History and Computer Science Departments of JNRM Complete 15-Day Internship Programme at A&N Achieves

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 1: Students from the Department of History and Computer Science of JNRM completed a fifteen-day internship programme at the Andaman & Nicobar Archives, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) curriculum prescribed by Pondicherry University. The NEP mandates internships to enhance students’ practical exposure and promote field-based learning.

A total of 24 students from the Department of History and 2 students from the Department of Computer Science participated in the programme, which was conducted at the A&N Archives, Secretariat from March 9 to 31.

The internship provided valuable hands-on experience in archival research, document preservation, and historical data management. Students also gained insights into the rich cultural and heritage history of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

During the internship, students were actively involved in the activities viz. Cataloguing and indexing archival materials; Records classification and documentation; Digitization of historical documents; Maintenance of archival databases.

Upon completion of the programme yesterday, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Secretary (Archives), interacted with the students at Archives and reviewed their learning experiences gained from working with the extensive archival repository. She appreciated their efforts and enthusiasm, and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the students.

The Secretary also expressed her commitment to continuing such initiatives, emphasizing that the Archives will extend similar enriching learning opportunities to students in the future.
