Students of GSSS Karmatang Visit ICAR-KVK, North & Middle Andaman on Exposure Visit

Mayabunder, Sept. 17: A group of students from Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Karmatang visited ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North & Middle Andaman on 17th September 2025 as part of an educational exposure programme.

During the visit, students were introduced to various activities and facilities of the KVK including crop demonstration, fisheries, farm mechanisation, integrated farming models, and vermicomposting. The students were briefed on modern agricultural practices, climate-resilient technologies, and the importance of sustainable farming for food and nutritional security.

As part of the programme, lectures were also delivered by Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agricultural Engineering), who spoke on benefits of farm mechanization for modernisation of agriculture. Mr. Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science), highlighted the importance of nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy food habits. Subam Debroy, SMS (Fisheries), discussed the scope of fisheries in Andaman and explained scientific fish farming practices and related career opportunities.

Interactive sessions were held where students raised queries about career opportunities in agriculture, the role of science and technology in farming, and the contribution of KVKs in rural development. The visit aimed to inspire young minds towards agriculture and allied sectors, fostering awareness about innovation and skill development in farming.

As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2025, the students were also made aware of the necessity of cleanliness in their surroundings and how they can contribute to the campaign.

The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. A total of 38 students and teachers participated in the visit.
