
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 3: As part of the Teachers’ Day celebrations, the Directorate of Education, A & N Administration, has commenced a series of sports activities for teachers and staff members. The events began today at the Multipurpose Hall, Netaji Stadium, with an inaugural ceremony graced by Shri Gyan Sheel Dubey, HoO, Directorate of Education, as the Chief Guest. In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the significance of sportsmanship and encouraged the participants to give their best. He warmly greeted the gathering and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the tournament.
A large number of teachers and staff members took part in the events with great enthusiasm, showcasing sportsmanship and camaraderie. In the Badminton Doubles (Men’s) category, the pair of Shri. Nakul Dutta, PST, GPS West Wandoor, and Shri. Zanpear, PST, GMS Manglutan, emerged as the winners. The runner-up position was secured by Shri. Nibir Das, PET, St. Mary’s, Bathubasti, and Shri. R. Rajesh Roshan, PST, DEO South Andaman.
In the Table Tennis Doubles (Women’s) category, the team of Miss Meena Tiwari, PET, GSSS Haddo, and Miss Neeti Biswas, PET, GMS Chouldhari, clinched the winner’s title. The runners-up were Smti. Udiya Kumari, PET, GSS Delanipur, and Smti. Anisha Banu, PET, GMS Dignabad.
The excitement is set to double on Thursday, September 04, 2025, with an equally thrilling line-up of events. The action will continue at Multipurpose Hall, Netaji Stadium with the Badminton Doubles for Women, Table Tennis for Men at 8.30 am. In the afternoon, the spotlight shifts to Netaji Stadium with the highly anticipated 100 Metres Sprint and Tug of War for both Men and Women from 3:00 pm. Participants must report at 3:00 pm sharp.
Earlier, Shri Mohd. Irshad Ahmed, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), Directorate of Education, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. In his address, he highlighted the significance of organizing such sporting events as part of the Teachers’ Day celebrations, emphasizing that these activities not only foster physical fitness but also build team spirit, camaraderie, and a sense of unity among the teaching fraternity. He lauded the active participation of teachers and staff members and encouraged them to continue promoting sports and wellness in their respective institutions.
Please Note: The Chess Tournament for both Men and Women will now be organized at the Teachers’ Home, VIP Road, instead of the Andaman Club, due to administrative reasons.
