
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 20: A three-day SHG Mela, organized under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) got underway at Ramakrishna Pur Village, Little Andaman on Dec. 19.
During the inaugural function, Shri Parmanathan, Pramukh, Little Andaman, interacted with SHG members and motivated them to diversify their products and explore new market avenues. The PRI members and officials of various Departments were present at the event being spearheaded by the Directorate of Rural Development, PRIs & ULBs, with the objective of promoting rural entrepreneurship and providing a marketing platform for Self Help Group (SHG) members.
A total of 30 stalls have been set up, showcasing a wide range of handmade and locally produced items crafted by SHG members and other participating institutions. A special attraction of the Mela is the first-time participation of an SHG group from the Onge Tribe. The stalls recorded sales worth Rs. 2,15,874/- in a single day, reflecting a strong public response. The SHG Mela has witnessed enthusiastic participation from both exhibitors and visitors, creating a vibrant atmosphere marked by cultural exchange and the promotion of traditional crafts. The event will continue till Dec. 21.
