Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 20: As part of its sustained efforts to promote regulated and sustainable tourism and enhance livelihood opportunities in South Andaman, the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, undertook measures and facilitated the introduction of regulated watersports activities at Wandoor. Pursuant to this initiative, the regulated watersports activities were formally flagged off by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, in the presence of senior officers of the A&N Administration, Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Prakash Adhikari, representatives of PRIs, tourism stakeholders, and local boat operators, thereby addressing a long-standing demand of local people and stakeholders.
The initiative is based on a comprehensive Risk Assessment Study conducted by the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, which recommended the introduction of Glass Bottom Boat Rides and Parasailing within duly demarcated operational zones. Permissions for operating these activities will be strictly in accordance with sustainability, and environmental protection.
This landmark achievement reflects the proactive approach of the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in the A&N Islands.
The launch of watersports at Wandoor is expected to enhance visitor experience, generate local employment, and further position the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a premier eco-tourism destination.
