Tourism Department to Organise Island Trekking Festival on Nov. 15

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 4: The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in association with the Department of Environment & Forests and MY Bharat, will organize the Island Trekking Festival on 15th November, 2025, from 7 AM to 9 AM at Mt. Manipur, one of the most scenic and historically significant trekking routes in South Andaman.

The event aims to promote eco-adventure tourism, encourage local youth participation, and foster greater appreciation of the Islands’ natural beauty and historical heritage. The Trekking Festival will also provide a platform to inspire local youth to take up eco-guiding and adventure guiding as a means of self-employment, in line with the Administration’s vision for sustainable tourism development. Participation will be limited to 30 persons, including local youth, trekking enthusiasts, tour operators, and tourists. The first 30 registered participants will be selected for the trek. Participation certificates will be issued by the Department of Tourism to all participants.

A bus will depart from Bambooflat Bus Terminus to the Forest Gate at Mt. Manipur and return after the event. Light refreshments will be provided to all participants; however, they are welcome to carry their own snacks. Officials from the Department of Environment & Forests will guide participants along the trail, offering insights into the area’s biodiversity and ecological significance. Comprehensive safety and first aid arrangements will be in place at the site, coordinated with the Health Department, to ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
