Traditional Boat Race to be Organised as Part of Island Sea Food Festival

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 12: The Department of Fisheries, in assistance with the Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T) Department, A&N Administration is organizing the ‘Island Sea Food Festival – 2026’ on 15th & 16th January, 2026 at the Marina Park Stretch Road, Sri Vijaya Puram. The festival will be organized with financial support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad.

As part of the Island Sea Food Festival – 2026, the Department of Fisheries will also organize a Traditional Boat Race at the Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat on Jan. 15 at 9.30 AM. Participation in the Traditional Boat Race is open only to non-motorized fishing boats (Halis dinghy) having registration, fishing licence, and Fisher ID Cards. Each boat shall have a maximum of two crew members, and wearing of life jackets is mandatory for all participants.

Interested owners of non-motorized fishing boats (Halis dinghy) of South Andaman District may register their willingness for participation to Zonal Fisheries Office, South Andaman along with details of the boat, name of crew members, and copies of Fisher ID Cards of the participants.

The last date of submission of the willingness to participate in the Traditional Boat Race is Jan. 14.
