Sri Vijaya Puram, March 2: The Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, has informed that transgender persons residing in the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands may apply online for issuance of Transgender Identity Certificate under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 through the designated Transgender Portal of the Government of India.
The Transgender Identity Certificate provides legal recognition of gender identity and facilitates access to various welfare schemes, benefits and entitlements. Eligible individuals are encouraged to apply through the online portal. For any assistance, applicants may approach the Office of the Deputy Commissioner concerned or the Directorate of Social Welfare.
The Administration appeals to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), community leaders and civil society members to extend support in spreading awareness and encouraging eligible persons to avail the benefit.
