TSG Bhasker Demands Urgent Action on Vacant MBBS Seats at ANIIMS under All India Quota

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 7: Shri TSG. Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has written to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration seeking immediate intervention regarding the issue of unfilled All India Quota (AIQ) seats in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS).

In his letter dated September 2, 2025, Mr. Bhasker raised serious concerns over the continued wastage of valuable MBBS seats, reserved under the All India Quota, which often remain vacant after the counseling process. Despite high demand for medical education among local youth, these unclaimed AIQ seats are not reallocated to deserving local candidates, resulting in a permanent loss of academic opportunity.

“This is not just an administrative lapse, but a gross injustice to the aspiring medical students of the Islands,” said Mr. Bhasker. “At a time when the region is in dire need of more healthcare professionals and educational opportunities, allowing seats to go vacant is simply unacceptable.”

Mr. Bhasker has urged the Chief Secretary to initiate dialogue with central and medical education authorities, as has been done in several other states, to facilitate the reallocation of unfilled All India Quota seats to local students in a timely manner.

Such a policy shift would not only optimize existing medical education infrastructure but also empower the youth of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands by providing them with the opportunity to pursue careers in medicine.
