TSG Bhasker Urges to Allow Electric Vehicles at Arrival Gate of Veer Savarkar International Airport for Greater Accessibility

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 8: In a formal communication dated September 2, 2025, Shri. TSG. Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has appealed to the Director of Veer Savarkar International Airport and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to revise current vehicle access policies to better serve arriving passengers.

The letter highlights a growing concern among citizens regarding the restricted access of electric and battery-operated vehicles to only the Departure Gate of the airport. At present, such vehicles are not permitted at the Arrival Gate, creating challenges for senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, wheelchair users, pregnant women, and children with special needs.

“Allowing electric vehicles at the Arrival Gate will significantly enhance the comfort and dignity of travel for vulnerable passengers. This simple change in policy would reflect a humane and inclusive approach to airport management,” stated Mr. Bhasker in his letter.

Shri. Bhasker has called upon the Airport Authority of India to take urgent and favorable action, enabling battery-operated vehicles to access both the Departure and Arrival Gates. The move is seen as essential to improving accessibility, environmental sustainability, and the overall passenger experience at one of the Union Territory’s most vital transport hubs.
