Unnatural Deaths at Kadamtala and Uttara, CPI (M) Demands Impartial Investigation

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 28: CPI (M) has demanded an impartial investigation into the alleged suicide of Shri Anish Toppo, a resident of Kadamtala so as to bring out any suspicious act at the behest of any influential persons of the areas. In a letter sent to the Director General of Police on 26th August, 2025,  D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee  drew  the  attention of the Police Department to the  massive agitation  launched by the students and general public of  Kadamtala over the  suspicious death of  Anish Toppo, who is a minor, two days back in Uttara, Kadamtala who just completed Class XII and is likely to be admitted in the JNRM for an undergraduate course.  CPI (M) Secretary informed the DGP that the parents of the deceased and general public suspect that the death of the said youth was not a suicide but a brutal murder at the behest of certain influential persons of the area. He further said that the Post Mortem Examination (PME) of the dead body has not been conducted through a doctor of the Forensic Department of ANIIMS as demanded by the people of Kadamtala.

CPI (M) Secretary also drew the attention of the DGP to the suicide of another youth Shamir Halder of Uttara area who was detained in the police station during the whole night of 24th/25th August and released next day (25.08.2025) morning after which he reportedly committed suicide. The cause of death is yet to be revealed by the police. Ayyappan told the DGP that the people suspect that the youth was humiliated and harassed in the police station.

CPI (M) Secretary urged upon the DGP to investigate the circumstances under which Shri Shamir Halder committed suicide and take strict action against the police officials, if any, involved in the abetment of suicide.

CPI (M) is of the opinion that immediate and appropriate steps are required to be taken to assuage the feelings of the people of Kadamtala in both the above cases and to instill a sense of confidence among them about the law enforcing agencies in the islands.
