UTATMA Conducts Kharif Campaigns, Demonstrations and Training to Promote Scientific Crop Management Practices

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: To promote scientific crop management practices, improve farm profitability, create awareness about various schemes of the Government of India, and strengthen the linkage between farmers and the extension system, the Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration, is organizing Kharif Campaigns, Demonstration and Training across different blocks of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

On 16th July 2025, the Kharif Campaign was organized across three blocks of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands viz. Mayabunder, Car Nicobar and Nancowrie, as part of the ongoing efforts by UTATMA in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture. At Mayabunder, the campaign was inaugurated by Shri Dhanveer, PRI member, at Pudumadurai Community Hall, where local farmers and officials gathered to participate in the awareness sessions. At Car Nicobar, the event was conducted at Community Hall, Kakana village, in the esteemed presence of Shri Emmanuel, 2nd Headman, Shri Edward, Village Secretary Kakana village, who encouraged the farming community to adopt modern agricultural practices. Meanwhile at Nancowrie, the event was conducted at the Community Hall, Sanuh Village, in the presence of Shri Taufique Ahmed, 3rd Captain.

During the campaigns, extensive awareness was created among farmers regarding a wide range of agricultural initiatives and best practices. Information was disseminated on various ongoing departmental and centrally sponsored schemes, including key flagship programmes of the Government of India such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme. Farmers were also briefed on the agricultural operations to be undertaken during the Kharif season, the significance of Soil Health Cards, and the preparation and application of organic inputs like Neemastra and Jeevamrith.

In addition, the importance of allied activities such as beekeeping was highlighted for income diversification. Schemes under HVADA, Minor Irrigation, and other allied sectors were also explained to help farmers.          

Apart from Kharif campaign, a demonstration on ‘Vermicomposting in Vermibed’ was also conducted in the field of Shri Laxmi Kanta Halder at Subhash Gram, Diglipur, in the presence of Smti Sumati Roy, Ward Member of Subhash Gram.  Additionally, a training program on ‘Freshwater Fish Pond Management’ was organized in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries at the Nabagram Community Hall, in the presence of Shri Nirodh Mondal, Sarpanch of Nabagram Village.
