Diglipur, Feb. 17: The Veterinary Hospital, Diglipur, in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), conducted a demonstration programme on integration of fish pond with duck farming at the fish cum duck pond of Smt. Pushpa Mondal, a progressive poultry and duck farmer of Subhashgram village.
Farmers were educated on the advantages of this integrated system, where ducks are reared on or around fish ponds and their droppings serve as natural manure for pond fertilization, boosting plankton production and fish growth.
Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital Diglipur, explained key aspects including selection of suitable duck breeds, optimal stocking density, construction of low-cost duck sheds over pond bunds, and health management of ducks. The demonstration received an encouraging response from local farmers, with a total of 16 farmers participating actively. As part of the programme, duck feed, steel basins, and steel buckets were distributed to Smt. Pushpa Mondal to support her integrated farming efforts.
