Port Blair, May 23: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers Master of Commerce (MCOM). The Programme will meet the expanding needs in Commerce education at all levels and provide necessary manpower to industry, trade, PSUs,Government and Private enterprises in the areas like Finance, International Business, E-Commerce and Accounting. In order to be eligible for the award of the Master of Commerce (M.Com.) degree, a student has to complete 12 courses. The student may be awarded Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Operations on completion of all first year courses worth 36 credits in one year  and Master of Commerce Degree with specialization in International Business Operations after completion of all 72 credits in two years.

The eligibility for MCom is Bachelor’s Degree or a higher degree from a recognized University. Medium of instruction for this programme is both English and Hindi. Port Blair, May 22: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, has sanctioned fifty thousand rupees as ex-gratia relief from LG’s Relief Fund to Master Suman Das, aged 9 years, S/o Shri Laxman Das, R/o Diglipur for his treatment as he is suffering from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (Blood Cancer) and has been referred to mainland for further management by the Medical Oncologist.

Considering the poor financial condition of the applicant and based on the report of Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) and Director (Health Services), the Lt. Governor has sanctioned the relief amount.

Port Blair, May 21: Smti Rashida Bibi Pradhan and B Laxmi Narayan, Up Pramukh Hope town have also expressed their gratitude to the A&N Administration for finalization of Fish Landing Center (FLC) at Panighat, which was a long pending demand of about 1500 fishermen of the area. The fishermen have also placed a demand for an Ice Plant near Panighat Jetty to enable them to preserve their catch apart from a fuel bunk at the jetty itself for their motorized fishing boats.

Taking forward their demand, the Pradhan has requested the Chief Secretary to consider a 15 tonne ice plant and a fuel bunk suitable for fuelling about 100 boats of the area. Rashida has also requested to grant an increase of seaward length of the above said FLC ramp from 15mt to 30mt and construction of slipways separately for motorised and mechanized fishing boats.

Port Blair, May 21: Martyrdom of former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi, also known as anti terrorism day, was observed at Gandhi Bhawan today at 10 AM by paying floral tribute to late Rajiv Gandhi. At the outset the Vice President, PCC, Hamid Ali garlanded the Photo and administered the oath to all the leaders and staff. Among the leaders present were Shri RV Reddy, President DCSA, Smti Shanta Singh, President Mahila Congress, John Robert Babu, President, PYC, Ms Mariam Bibi, GS and Ms Tamilarasi.

Port Blair, May 21: The Census 2011 final data of Andaman and Nicobar islands is slated for release on 22nd May.   The Director of Census Operations, N K Sharma will release the final results of the population enumeration in the  islands in a function to be held at Directorate of Census operations at Port Blair today morning.

The house listing data on houses and house hold amenities was already released by the Directorate in February last year, followed by the release of  the provisional population data of the islands with the break-up of rural and urban distribution.

The biggest administrative exercise of the world, the Indian Census was started way back in 1872 and the present census is the 15th in the series. However, the Census works got started in the islands only in the year 1901 and hence it is the 12th one in the A & N islands.

According to the Registrar General of Census Commissioner of India,  Dr C Chandramouli, the total expenditure on Census operations across the country was Rs 2200 crores, which works out to hardly Rs. 18.33 per person. This massive exercise covered 240 million households across 640,000 villages and 8,000 towns.

 

Port Blair, May 21: As part of the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day and to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Late Rajiv Gandhi, the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, today administered Anti-Terrorism pledge to all the staff of Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.

It was on this day in 1991 that former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. The Day is observed to generate awareness among all sections of people, about the danger of terrorism, violence and its dangerous effect on the people, the society and the country as a whole.  

On this day, pledge is administered to all people to oppose all forms of terrorism and violence. Oath is taken to uphold and promote peace, social harmony, and understanding among all fellow human being and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values.
