Port Blair, May 16: The Port Blair Municipal Council in its endeavor to extend services to the citizens has planned to erect/ provide 25 Nos. Modern type bus waiting shed in the Municipal area within a period of three months. On 15/5/2013 at about 10.00 a.m. Shri P.B.Murugan, Chairperson, PBMC along other officers of the Council visited School line Junction for erection of the first Modern type bus waiting shed in place of the existing old one for the benefit of general public.

The Jr. Engineer, SAD and the Forest Ranger of the area were also present during the inspection visit. The Chairperson, PBMC has directed the EE, PBMC to initiate action immediately so that the Bus Waiting Shed is ready for use before 1st June, 2013. Murugan has also directed the EE., (Works), PBMC to identify the locations in wards in consultation with ward councils for erection of Modern type bus waiting shed.

Port Blair, May 16: With the introduction of ‘Information Technology’ and Electronic System Management in the Industrial Training Institute, Dollygunj in the year 2002, many students have undergone the course with a hope to get suitable job in the IT sectors under the A&N Administration. Unfortunately the Administration still does not have any suitable posts for such candidates. As a result none of the pass out students since 2002 were able to get a job under the Administration.

Taking up the issue with the Lt. Governor, the PCC President Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his letter to the Administrator said that every department has computerized their working environment and the services of pass outs of the above course may easily be utilized by the deptts instead of depending on private companies. He has thus requested to consider creation of suitable posts like computer technicians or attendants etc. for the pass outs of above course in every departments of the Administration.

Port Blair, May 16: The newly built modernised branch of A & N State Coop. Bank was inaugurated on 14th May, 2013 at Dairy farm by Shri. Anand Prakash, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration in presence of Shri. N K Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Coop.) – cum – RCS. The 12th ATM service of the Bank was also inaugurated in the same function by the Chief Secretary.

Welcoming the dignitaries and the gathering Shri. N K Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Coop.)-cum-RCS elaborated the various achievements of the Bank and most importantly the key role played by the Bank in the development of A & N Islands.

Shri. Ravinder Rao, Managing Director of the Bank while speaking on the occasion said that the Dairy Farm branch which was started in the year 1982 has mobilised deposit and has helped the people of these Islands with the introduction of various schemes. He said that the CBS (Core Banking Solution) implementation is under process and assured that the Bank shall be able to render all modern banking facilities to its customers very shortly.

A brochure on financial inclusion, KCC and SHG prepared by NABARD in Nicobari language for the benefit of Nicobaris in the Island so as to bring them under the banking fold through A&N SCB and other banks was released by the Chief Secretary along with an animation CD on financial inclusion.

Shri. Bhagat Singh, Chairman of the Bank speaking on the occasion briefed about the various schemes of the Bank and urged all the people to come forward and avail banking services through micro-credit schemes. He further thanked all the dignitaries on the dais for making the inaugural function of the Bank a grand success and proposed vote of thanks to the dignitaries and other invitees.

Port Blair, May 16: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh has sanctioned fifty thousand rupees as ex-gratia relief from LG's Relief Fund to Shri P. Aboobaker, S/0 Late P. Marakar, R/o Mannarghat for his treatment as he is suffering from Coronary Artery Disease and is under medical treatment in mainland.

Considering the poor financial condition of Shri P. Aboobaker and based on the report of Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) and Director (Health Services), the Lt. Governor has sanctioned the relief amount.

Port Blair, May 16: A solemn function will be organized at the 'Memorial of Battle of Aberdeen', Water Sports Complex on 17th May 2013 at 9 am to pay tribute to those Great Andamanese who lost their lives during the “Battle of Aberdeen" fought in the year 1859.

The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands will pay tribute to the heroes of Battle of Aberdeen by laying wreath at the Memorial. In this regard, all have been requested to join in paying tribute to these heroes.

Port Blair, May 15: A young couple, said to be in love, today ended their lives in a lodge situated at Pongy Kyong, Port Blair. Leaving a note behind, the couple held themselves responsible for the act and urged that their bodies be cremated together.

The incident took place today at Surya Lodge, Pongy Kyong, Port Blair. The young couple namely Anand Kumar 26 and Sneha Bala, 20 had booked a room at the lodge yesterday evening and locked them inside. As they did not open the door till evening, the lodge management suspecting some untoward incident called up the local police. Upon breaking the door open, the police found the dead bodies of the two. Forensic experts also reached the spot and later their bodies were shifted to G.B. Pant Hospital for further investigation.

It is learnt that the Anand Kumar R/o Shadipur was already married while the girl Sneha Bala R/o Austinabad was a second year student of Tagore Govt. College of Education pursuing her B.Sc. B.Ed. Earlier on one occasion the two had fled away to mainland and a missing report was lodged at P.S. Pahargaon. The two were brought then back to Port Blair.
