Port Blair, May 15: The PCC Vice President, Shri Hamid Ali and District President Shri RV Reddy today met Mrs Prema Cariappa, Chairperson, Central Social Welfare Board at Raj Niwas. At the outset both, Hamid and Reddy have thanked Madam Cariappa for selecting Andaman as the venue of National Conference of the Chairpersons, of Social Welfare Board.

On the occasion, Hamid Ali requested for increasing the number of family counselling centres in A&N Islands, sighting examples of increase in family disturbances, especially between husband and wife and in-laws etc. for which many families break up leaving behind their children to suffer. In such situation, many housewives who are neither financially sound nor qualified enough for a suitable jobs become the worst sufferers.

RV Reddy had also requested to increase the number of crèches throughout the islands. He informed the Chairperson in most of the families, both the parents are earning members and are forced to leave behind their little children under the supervision of maid servants. As a result these children's upbringing is affected, which may, in future, even adverse affect on the society.

These PCC leaders also requested for granting excess fund to Social Welfare Board for introducing and conducting various awareness programmes and also to consider enhancing honorarium to those workers who are engaged by SWB . Ms. Cariappa gave a patient hearing and assured to look into the matters. Smti Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, SWB had also joined the leaders during the meeting.

Port Blair, May 15: In a letter of request to the Lt. Governor, the President, Pradesh Yuva Congress, Shri John Robert has urged to open up and promote tourism at Campbell Bay, stating that the youth are facing problems to earn their livelihood. Meanwhile he has also requested the LG to inaugurate the Jetty at Break Water, Campbell Bay, the construction of which was completed three years ago apart from considering disbursement of compensation to the left out tsunami victim farmers.

Port Blair, May 15: The Directorate of Social Welfare is implementing the following schemes namely 1. Old Age Assistance/Pension, 2. Widow Assistance/Pension, 3. Disability Allowances, 4. Destitute Allowances under which assistance/ pension are being provided to the senior citizens, widows, destitute women and persons with disabilities @ Rs. 1000/-.

The quantum of assistance/pension of the above schemes has been enhanced by the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 2000/-p.m. w.e.f. 1st April 2013. The beneficiaries under above schemes will get assistance/ pension @ Rs. 2000/- directly through bank account. Further it is informed to all general public/ beneficiaries that the application form received by the Directorate of Social Welfare upto 30th April 2013 for availing above assistance has been disposed/ sanctioned and no application is pending in the Directorate. Assistance/ pension sanctioned to beneficiaries will be credited in their Bank account.

Few applications have been sent to the concerned Child Development Project Officer for want of certain clarification/ documents such as furnishing income certificate, disability certificate, affidavit, correction of name in bank accounts etc., with the direction to re-submit in the Directorate after attending the shortcomings as specified in each application. Applicants are advised to contact the Child Development Project Officer of their respective areas to find the status of their application and to re-submit their application to the Child Development Project Officer duly complete in all respect alongwith valid documents for sanction of assistance.

Port Blair, May 15: The Directorate of Tourism is going to organize one day Soft Skill Training Programme free of cost for Front Line Staff in tourism Industries viz. Auto/ Taxi, Boat Operators & Hotel Staff for improving their skills in dealing with Tourists and General Public. The persons who have already registered their names through their Association are requested to attend the Andaman Teal house at 8:00 AM on 18th May, 2013. Those who have not registered may contact Shri Subhash Chandra, Sr. Investigator, Directorate of IP&T for the same at the earliest.

Port Blair, May 14: For the Tuesday’s Public Hearingby Lt. Governor,it has been advised that people should approach the concerned Pr. Secretaries/ Secretaries/ Head of the Departments in the first instance for redressal of their grievances.

In case their grievances are not properly attended to and resolved, then they may meet the Lt Governor during public hearing on every Tuesday. All Pr. Secretaries/ Secretaries/ Head of Departments are required to attend to the grievances of the people on priority during the specified timing displayed in the respective departments.     

Port Blair, May 15: Sri Annai Aravind Health Care and Social Welfare Trust (SAAHSWT), in collaboration with Islanders Yoga Trust (IYT), Tamilnadu Paramparai, Siddha Vaithya Maha Sangam, Shri Puttru Maharishi Social & Medical Service Centre, Vellore organised the 9th Free Siddha, Varma Therapy & Yoga Therapy Camp in the islands on 12th May 2013 at Vivekananda Kendra, Lamba Line, Port Blair from 10.00AM to 01.00PM  through the experts of  Siddha, Varma Therapy who arrived from mainland. On the occasion Siddha & Varma Specialist, Dr. Arul Anandha Kumar, diagnosed the patients and distributed free medicines.

Port Blair, May 14: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers Master of Arts in Rural Development (MARD). The discipline of Rural Development is of vital significance for understanding the development issues related to rural society. The syllabus of M.A. Programme in Rural Development is designed to include such diverse academic contents as are essential in the making of this discipline in the Indian context.

An essential component of this programme is dissertation based on empirical research in rural areas.
