IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair Celebrates its 39th Convocation

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 8: The 39th convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was held on 07th April, 2026. The event begun with the live telecast of Online program from IGNOU Headquarter and with National Song and Kulgeet. The Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, presided over the 39th Convocation Ceremony of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) as Chief Guest in IGNOU, HQ, New Delhi.

The Guest of Honour Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest (Wild Life and Research & Working Plan) Department of Environment and Forest Andaman and Nicobar Islands has graced the convocation function at IGNOU, Regional Centre, Port Blair opposite to Air Cargo Complex, VIP Road, Sri Vijaya Puram. 944 students are eligible to receive their degree /diplomas for 39th Convocation out of which 112 have attended the convocation function. Large number of guests, parents along with their wards were attended during the Convocation.

The Guest of Honour Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS has addressed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of learning and awareness about the ecologically sensitive land of the A & N Islands. He also emphasized that how the IGNOU is reaching the unreached remote areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands i.e. from North & Middle Andaman District to Nicobar District in providing the higher education. He stated that education can open new path in the lives of learners.

The Special guest Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Scientist -F and Course Director, Zoological Survey of India, A & N Islands Regional Centre has delivered the address and appealed learners to strive for excellence and along with this continuous effort for healthy lifestyle.

The Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre, Port Blair Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob has delivered the welcome address and presented report about academic activities happened in the last one year. He welcomed the Guest of Honour and the Special Guest, Principals of various colleges of A & N Islands, the IGNOU study centre staff and other dignitaries, learners and their parents on this occasion of 39th Convocation. In his speech he also mentioned that that the IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair organized “Skill Development Programme” under UBA scheme in its adopted village at Chouldari Village, South Andaman and adopted as Science Village. The Vote of thanks given by Dr. Sudarshan Raja, Assistant Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair.
