Sri Vijaya Puram, April 17: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre, Port Blair celebrated 135th Birth Anniversary of Baba Saheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on April 15, 2026 at its premises located at VIP Road, Opp-Air Cargo Complex, Sri Vijaya Puram. The commemoration began with floral tributes on the portrait of Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar by the Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob, Assistant Regional Directors, staff and the students of IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair.
The Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob addressed the staff and students gathered by highlighting the great contribution made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, especially in the areas of contribution to Indian Constitution, leading as the first Law Minister of Independent India, educational achievements, playing a crucial role in uplifting the oppressed and marginalized segments of society and emphasizing his role as a national leader who fought for the rights of all citizens, including women and the oppressed, and encourages recognition of his legacy beyond caste identity.
