Pioneering Five-Day Workshop on “Maritime Security & Coastal Policing” Concludes at Police Headquarters

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 24: The inaugural five-day workshop on “Maritime Security & Coastal Policing”, organized by the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), Sri Vijaya Puram, was concluded today and a valedictory session was held on 24th April 2026 at the Conference Hall of Police Headquarters under the chairmanship of Sh. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The workshop, conducted from 20th April 2026 to 24th April 2026, was aimed at strengthening the capacity, inter-agency coordination, and operational preparedness of officers of IPS/DANIPS ranks and their equivalents from various States/UTs and Central Armed Police Forces in safeguarding India’s coastal and maritime domains.

The programme witnessed participation from IPS/DANIPS and equivalents rank officers from different States/UTs, CAPFs and Andaman & Nicobar Police which was a unique first for Andaman Nicobar Police. The course covered a wide range of important subjects relating to maritime and coastal security. These included maritime security concepts, coastal security architecture, maritime laws, intelligence gathering, surveillance mechanisms, coastal patrolling strategies, anti-poaching operations, disaster response, search and rescue operations and the role of key stakeholders in maritime security management. Special sessions were also conducted on the functioning and responsibilities of agencies such as the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP), Gujarat, Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy.

To provide hands-on exposure, participating officers were taken through live demonstrations, field visits, and detailed operational briefings, enabling them to acquire first-hand insight into coastal policing systems and maritime enforcement mechanisms.

Addressing the participants of IPS and DANIPS ranks during the valedictory session, the DGP commended them for their active participation and emphasised the strategic importance of maritime security, particularly in island territories such as the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He highlighted the need for continuous skill enhancement, inter-agency coordination and adoption of modern technologies to effectively address emerging maritime threats.

The Director General of Police also placed on record his sincere appreciation for the invaluable support extended by the A&N Command, Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy, whose active cooperation, expert resource persons, operational demonstrations, and logistical assistance greatly contributed to the successful conduct of the workshop.

During the valedictory session, the officers who participated in the workshop shared their valuable feedback and experiences, and appreciated the course content, particularly its practical orientation.

In view of the highly positive feedback and the enriching experience for Andaman & Nicobar Police, it has been decided to conduct a similar course on a monthly basis. The programme will be structured for two tiers of the organisation: the first for officers from Sub-Inspector to Dy.SP level, and the second for officers from ASP to IG level.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Director General of Police, senior officers, resource persons, participants, and all those involved in organizing the programme.
