Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 25: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, deputed the second batch of three Senior Veterinary Officers to attend a training programme on Embryo Transfer Technique (ETT) organised by NDDB Dairy Services at the Central Cattle Breeding Farm (CCBF), Dhamrod, near Surat, Gujarat, from 17th to 22nd August, 2026.
During the training programme, comprehensive theoretical classes were conducted on the estrous cycle, hormonal control, synchronisation of estrus, reproductive physiology and various procedures involved in Embryo Transfer Technique. In addition to the theoretical sessions, practical classes were held on reproductive organ palpation, identification of reproductive status and practical techniques involved in embryo transfer. The hands-on practical sessions were highly informative and beneficial in developing practical understanding and skills related to assisted reproductive techniques.
The participants were also given demonstrations and practical exposure to various stages of the embryo production process, including ovum pick-up, oocyte/ova collection, embryogenesis, embryo freezing/cryopreservation, thawing techniques and transportation of embryos. The procedures followed at NDDB were demonstrated in a systematic and practical manner. The training programme also included refresher sessions and interactive discussions, which helped in strengthening the existing knowledge of the participants regarding advanced reproductive technologies in livestock.
The programme concluded with a valedictory function, during which certificates of successful completion of the training were awarded to the participating officers. Overall, the training programme was highly informative and beneficial, providing valuable theoretical knowledge as well as practical exposure to Embryo Transfer Technology and other assisted reproductive techniques. The knowledge and skills gained will be useful for strengthening breeding and reproductive management programmes in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
