Sri Vijaya Puram, April 27: The Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Art), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi, has requested the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to recommend a panel of three names for nomination of one member to the General Council of the Akademi.

The process for the constitution of a new General Council is being initiated in accordance with Clause 5(vii) of the Memorandum of Association of the Akademi, which stipulates that each State and Union Territory shall recommend three names in alphabetical order, including at least one woman. The nominees must be eminent personalities who have made significant contributions in the field of visual and plastic arts, duly endorsed by records, and should not have previously served as members of the General Council or any Committee of the Akademi. The tenure of the nominated member will be three years, with eligibility restricted to a maximum of two non-successive terms.

In this connection, applications are invited from eminent artists of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands who meet the above criteria. Interested candidates may submit their bio-data, including present address, contact details (phone/mobile numbers and email ID), along with supporting documents, to the Director (Art & Culture), A&N Administration, Cellular Jail Complex, or by email at artand.culture@and.nic.in by 4th May, 2026. They should not have been member of the General Council; or any of the Committee of the Lalit Kala Akademi earlier.

One of the recommended names will be considered for nomination as a member of the General Council of Lalit Kala Akademi for a period of three years.

This invitation is not merely an administrative exercise but a celebration of the artistic spirit of the Islands. It offers a rare opportunity for one among our eminent artists to represent the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the General Council of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, thereby contributing to the national canvas of creativity and cultural stewardship for a period of three years.
