
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 27: A four days training programme on ‘Bima Sakhi’ is being organized in the Conference Hall of the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, A&N Administration in collaboration with the Life Insurance Corporation of India, Sri Vijaya Puram w.e.f 27.04.2026 to 30.04.2026.
The Training Programme was inaugurated by Dr. Apurva Sharma, Director (RD/Panch.)/ State Mission Director (ANIRLM), in the presence of Officials from LIC, Sri Vijaya Puram, and the State Mission Management Unit (SMMU), Andaman and Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission.
The initiative aims to empower women members of Self-Help Groups by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to function as “Bima Sakhis”, who will act as community level insurance facilitators and support last-mile delivery of financial and insurance services.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Apurva Sharma, Director (RD/Panch.)/ State Mission Director (ANIRLM) emphasized the importance of financial inclusion and risk mitigation among rural households. He highlighted that access to Insurance is crucial for Safeguarding Livelihoods against uncertainties and encouraged the participants to take up the role of “Bima Sakhis” with commitment and dedication. He further stated that such initiatives not only enhance livelihood opportunities for women but also strengthen community resilience and promote inclusive development.
Officials from LIC, Sri Vijaya Puram, elaborated on various life insurance and social security schemes and their relevance to rural communities. They highlighted the importance of creating awareness about insurance products at the grassroots level and explained the role of “Bima Sakhis” in facilitating enrolment, ensuring timely claim settlement, and building trust between the community and insurance providers.
The training programme is witnessing participation from SHG members of Ferrargunj, Prothrapur, Rangat, Mayabunder, and Diglipur Blocks. Over the Four Days, the sessions will focus on enhancing awareness of insurance products, improving financial literacy, and enabling participants to effectively support their communities in accessing social security and Insurance Services.
The programme marks a significant step towards strengthening grassroots level financial services delivery and fostering women led development in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It is expected that the trained “Bima Sakhis” will play a crucial role in expanding insurance coverage and promoting financial security among rural households.
