SHG Hunar Haat Celebrates Rural Skills and Indigenous Tribal Spirit at Kamorta

Nancowry, May 3: With the objective of providing a vibrant marketing platform for rural Self-Help Group (SHG) women, a ‘SHG Hunar Haat – Celebrating Rural Skills and Indigenous Tribal Spirit’ was organized on 02nd May, 2026 at Kamorta under Nancowry Block.

A number of Self-Help Groups members from Kamorta and Nancowry Islands actively participated in the event by setting up stalls and showcasing a variety of locally produced products. The exhibition featured traditional and ethnic eatables, wooden crafts, handmade cutleries, and other indigenous products, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the Nicobar region.

The programme was organized under the aegis of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) with the aim of enhancing market visibility, increasing sales opportunities, and promoting sustainable livelihoods for rural women entrepreneurs. Inaugurating the event, Dr. Kshitij Gyanraj, SA, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry appreciated the efforts of SHG members in promoting traditional skills and strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship. The event witnessed active participation from officials, local residents, and community members.

A major highlight of the Hunar Haat was the encouraging public response, resulting in total sales amounting worth over 25,000 during the day, indicating growing support for locally made products.
