Secretary Education Inaugurates Capacity Building Programme for In-Service Teachers

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 4: The Department of Education, A&N Administration is organizing Capacity Building Programme (CBP) for In-Service Teachers (PSTs, GTTs, and PGTs) from 04.05.2026 to 19.06.2026. The programme was inaugurated by Shri L. Kumar, Secretary (Education), in the presence of Shri Keshav Narendra Singh, Director of Education and the senior officers of the Education Department.

Addressing the gathering, the Secretary (Education) underscored the importance of continuous professional development for teachers to effectively cater to the evolving demands of the present education system. He highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in shaping young minds and encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions to ensure meaningful learning outcomes.

Earlier, the Director of Education welcomed the dignitaries and participants, outlining the objectives of the programme. He reiterated the Department’s commitment to strengthen teaching practices and enhancing learning outcomes across schools in the islands.

The programme features expert resource persons from National institutions such as the National Council of Educational Research and Training, Regional Institute of Education Nellore, Regional Institute of Education Bhubaneswar, RIE Mysore and the Central Board of Secondary Education, who will provide trainings for effective teaching strategies aligned with NEP -2020. The programme focuses on learner-centered approaches, innovative pedagogy, and the use of digital tools to enhance classroom engagement and improve learning outcomes.

Altogether, 2,598 teachers from various schools of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be benefitted from this programme. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Smt. Sangeeta Chand, Principal, State Institute of Education (SIE), who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for their valuable presence and contributions.

The Department of Education reiterated its commitment towards improving the quality of education in the islands through sustained and structured capacity-building initiatives conducted through SIE and DIET.
