Sri Vijaya Puram, May 19: Recently four cases from Beodnabad and Bimblitan (Kodiyaghat) areas have come to the notice of the District Administration, wherein certain persons/recorded tenants/their representatives, in the name of development of agricultural land, are engaged in mass cutting and levelling of earth, thereby altering the nature and character of the land and causing permanent damage to agricultural holdings, with the primary motive of plotting and sale of such agricultural land, which is totally illegal.
Strict action has been initiated against such violators and notices under Section 151 along with other relevant provisions of the A&N Islands Land Revenue and Land Reforms Regulation, 1966, have been issued.
The above acts are in complete contravention of the purpose for which the land was originally allotted. The sole intention behind such large-scale development appears to be plotting and sale of land without disclosing the actual legal status and nature of the land. False publicity is also being made to the general public regarding the sale of residential plots on such lands. By such activities, innocent members of the public are being misled and cheated.
All such persons/developers are hereby cautioned to desist from indulging in such illegal activities, failing which stringent penal action shall be initiated against them without any further notice, including ejectment and extinguishment of tenancy rights, as per the provisions of law.
The general public have also been advised not to fall into the trap of such land developers and to verify the factual and legal status of the land from the concerned Revenue Authorities before entering into any negotiation or purchase of land, so as to avoid future complications.
Further, if any such illegal activity is observed or noticed anywhere within the district, strict legal action shall be taken against the violators in accordance with law.
