Sri Vijaya Puram, May 31: The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) strongly advocated several measures to improve fuel accessibility and support the tourism sector during the stakeholder consultation meeting on fuel retail services convened by ANIIDCO at Vikas Bhawan.
Representing AATO, President Shri M. Vinod and General Secretary Shri Saikat Biswas attended the meeting and highlighted issues affecting tourism operators across the islands.
One of the key demands raised by AATO was the introduction of a Fuel-on-Wheels service for tourist boats, sport fishing vessels, and water sports operators. The association pointed out that while large vessels receive bunkering facilities, smaller tourism boats are often forced to transport fuel in cans, creating safety and compliance concerns. AATO proposed doorstep fuel delivery at major tourism jetties, including Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, Junglighat, Chatham, Swaraj Dweep, and Shaheed Dweep.
The association also requested the introduction of a prepaid fuel indent system for recognized tour operators, extension of petrol pump operating hours up to 10 PM in Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep, installation of smart vending machines at fuel stations, and improvement of washroom facilities to provide a better experience for tourists and the general public.
AATO further urged ANIIDCO to reserve a portion of fuel stocks for registered tourist vehicles, boats, and water sports operators during periods of fuel shortage so that tourism activities remain unaffected and visitors do not face inconvenience.
Speaking at the meeting, Shri M. Vinod emphasized the importance of a reliable fuel supply system for sustaining tourism operations, while Shri Saikat Biswas highlighted practical measures that could improve safety, efficiency, and visitor satisfaction.
The AATO representatives thanked ANIIDCO for organising the consultation and providing stakeholders with an opportunity to present their concerns and suggestions. The association expressed hope that the proposals would be considered positively in the larger interest of tourism development and economic growth in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
