Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar Flags of ‘Walkathon’ Organised as Part of the Celebration of 90 Years of Akashvani

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 31: As part of the celebration of 90 years of Akashvani, Akashvani Sri Vijaya Puram organised a Walkathon today from National Memorial Cellular Jail to Flag Point.  The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, was the chief guest and flagged off the Walkathon.

Prior to the commencement of the Walkathon, the iconic Akashvani signature tune was played and a special song based on 90 years of Akashvani was presented by the Akashvani team.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said that the Akashvani signature tune awakens people, creates awareness and inspires people to remain active and connected with society. He appreciated the remarkable role played by Akashvani over the past nine decades in spreading awareness among the people regarding culture, education and various social issues. The Chief Secretary further said that the huge participation in the Walkathon reflects that even in today’s digital era, people continue to remain ardent listeners and admirers of radio. He stated that Akashvani Sri Vijaya Puram has been serving the people of these islands since 2nd June, 1963 and expressed confidence that it will continue to serve the people in future with the same dedication and commitment.

Deputy Director General (Engineering) and Head of Office, Shri C. Subba Rao also spoke on the occasion. Staff members of Akashvani and Doordarshan Kendra, casual assignees, artists of Akashvani, along with retired staff members of Akashvani, enthusiastically participated in the event.

The Walkathon was organised to commemorate the glorious journey of Akashvani and to promote awareness about its rich contribution towards broadcasting, culture, information dissemination and public service over the last nine decades.
