
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 1: Government Primary School (GPS), Kalady, North & Middle Andaman, has brought laurels to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands by securing 3rd Position at the National Level in the Foundational Category under the School Challenge–ToFEI (Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions) 2025: Towards a Tobacco-Free Generation, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The achievement was recognized during the National Award Ceremony of School Challenge–ToFEI 2025 and Launch of Nasha Mukt Vidyalaya Action Plan, held on 29th May, 2026 at New Delhi.
The ceremony was graced by Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, who felicitated the award-winning schools from across the country.
The award recognizes the exemplary efforts of GPS Kalady in promoting a tobacco-free educational environment, creating awareness among students, and advancing the objectives of the ToFEI programme. The school was selected as a National-level winner following a rigorous evaluation process conducted at the District, State, and National levels, reflecting its commitment to fostering healthy lifestyles and safe learning spaces for children.
On behalf of GPS Kalady, the prestigious National award was received by Shri Tarpan Sarkar, Primary School Teacher (PST), attached to the Office of the Deputy Director Education (Science), Shiksha Sadan, in the presence of Shri Ram Pravesh, Deputy Director of Education (Science), Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
