Sri Vijaya Puram, June 2: The Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration, has taken significant steps to strengthen specialist healthcare services across the Islands. In this regard, applications were invited for filling up 32 Specialist posts in various disciplines on a contractual basis for a period of one year. The vacancy notice was published in newspaper and uploaded on the official websites of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration and the Directorate of Health Services.
A total of 120 eligible applications were received, out of which, 85 candidates appeared for the online interviews. Based on the recommendations of the Screening Committee, offers of appointment were issued to 32 candidates. Of these, 23 candidates have accepted the offers of appointment, and 11 Specialists have already joined their duties.
To further improve healthcare delivery, the Directorate has also undertaken measures to strengthen services at District Hospital, Garacharma, Dr. R.P. Hospital, North & Middle Andaman, and BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar.
This initiative is expected to reduce patient congestion at G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, the main referral hospital of the Islands and bring specialist healthcare services closer to the people. An Integrated Public Health Laboratory (IPHL) has already been established and is fully operational at District Hospital, Garacharma, significantly enhancing diagnostic and laboratory services for the benefit of the public.
Specialists in the fields of Surgery, Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, Orthopaedics, Microbiology, Pathology, Gynaecology, and Paediatrics are being deployed to strengthen healthcare services at District Hospital, Garacharma. Altogether, 27 Specialists, including regular and contractual appointees, are currently providing specialist healthcare services across the Islands.
