Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) held a meeting with senior Air India officials at the AATO office to discuss air connectivity, airfare reduction, and the upcoming winter flight schedule for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The meeting was attended by AATO President Mr. M. Vinod, General Secretary Mr. Saikat Biswas, and Vice President Mr. Navneet. Air India was represented by Mr. Rahul Bose, Associate Manager – Trade Sales, Kolkata, and Mr. Srinivasan Rajachandrasekharan, Associate Vice President – Commercial, Air India Limited.
During the meeting, AATO highlighted the importance of reducing airfares, considering the islands’ dependence on air connectivity and its direct impact on tourism. The delegation also requested an increase in flight frequency and urged Air India not to withdraw any services after May.
AATO emphasized that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are an all-season tourism destination and that the tourism industry is making concerted efforts to attract more visitors during June, July, and August. Consistent and affordable air connectivity is essential for supporting tourist arrivals, the local economy, and the growth of the tourism sector.
Responding to the request for additional flights, Air India officials informed the delegation that the airline is currently facing a significant shortage of aircraft, along with delays in aircraft deliveries due to the ongoing international crisis.
The Air India officials gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised by AATO and assured the delegation that the issues would be conveyed to the highest authorities of Air India. They further assured that they would make every possible effort to address the concerns.
As part of continued engagement, a meeting in Kolkata is planned for next month. A further meeting with Air India authorities is also proposed before the preparation of the summer flight schedule, tentatively in December 2026 or January 2027.
AATO remains committed to working with airlines and relevant stakeholders to improve air connectivity, ensure affordable travel, and promote the sustainable growth of tourism in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
