Lt. Governor’s Message on World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all the residents of the A& N Islands. This year’s theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, serves as a timely reminder that nature is our greatest ally in addressing climate challenges and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.

The A & N Islands are endowed with extraordinary natural wealth, including lush forests, pristine beaches, vibrant coral reefs, extensive mangroves, and unique biodiversity. These invaluable ecosystems not only enrich our environment but also sustain the livelihoods, culture and well-being of our people. In the face of growing environmental challenges and climate change, safeguarding these fragile natural resources has become more important than ever.

I commend the efforts of the Administration, educational institutions, voluntary organizations, youth groups and citizens who continue to contribute towards environmental conservation through initiatives such as mangrove plantation, beach clean-up drives, coral reef protection, renewable energy adoption and effective waste management practices.

However, protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires collective action. I urge all islanders, particularly our youth and students, to become champions of environmental stewardship. Let us adopt sustainable practices by reducing waste, avoiding single-use plastics, conserving water and energy, planting and nurturing trees and preserving the fragile ecosystems that make our Islands unique.

On this World Environment Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to living in harmony with nature and work together to build a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future.

Jai Hind!
