Sri Vijaya Puram, June 10: The President of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, Shri. Rangalal Halder, has addressed a representation to the Chief General Manager (CGM), BSNL Bhawan, A & N Circle, highlighting the persistent problem of poor BSNL mobile network and internet connectivity across various parts of the Shaheed Dweep Islands.
In his Letter, Shri. Halder stated that BSNL, being the primary telecom service provider in the Islands, has a crucial responsibility to ensure uninterrupted voice and data services. However, frequent disruptions and weak network coverage have been causing immense hardship to residents as well as visitors.
He pointed out that the unreliable network connectivity has adversely affected day-to-day communication, online banking transactions, digital payment services, educational activities, business operations, and access to various government services. Students and working professionals are facing considerable difficulties in attending online classes, participating in virtual meetings, and carrying out official assignments due to unstable internet connectivity.
Shri. Halder further emphasized that the tourism sector, which serves as one of the major sources of livelihood for the people of the Islands, has also been severely impacted. Tourists visiting Shaheed Dweep frequently express dissatisfaction over the lack of dependable mobile and internet services, affecting their overall travel experience. Hotels, tour operators, transport providers, and other stakeholders associated with the tourism industry are facing operational challenges due to poor connectivity. The inability to make seamless digital payments and access online booking platforms has created inconvenience for both tourists and local businesses.
Considering the growing dependence on digital communication and internet-based services, Shri. Halder urged the Chief General Manager, BSNL, to take immediate and effective measures to strengthen telecom infrastructure and improve network coverage throughout Shaheed Dweep and other parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
He further requested that appropriate directions be issued to the concerned authorities to ensure reliable and uninterrupted mobile and internet connectivity in the larger interest of the general public, students, businesses, tourists, and all stakeholders dependent on digital services.
Shri. Halder expressed hope that BSNL would treat the matter with utmost priority and undertake necessary corrective measures at the earliest to address the long-standing connectivity issues faced by the residents of the Islands.
