Sri Vijaya Puram, June 30: The State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), under the Department of Social Welfare, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, successfully organized a one-week awareness and skill development programmes from 15th June to 20th June, 2026 focusing on women’s entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and development of sustainable livelihoods. The first programme focusing on good health was conducted on 15th and 19th of June 2026 at Buniyadabad community hall & Bhatubasti Anganwadi -2 on 10% reduction in oil consumption in households. The second program on Government Schemes and Subsidies for Women-Led Businesses was conducted on 17th June, 2026 at Bhatubasti.
Continuing the efforts to strengthen women’s economic independence, SHEW organized a two-day hands-on training programme on “Preparation of Virgin Coconut Oil for Women Entrepreneurs” on 18th and 19th June 2026 at the ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram. Participants gained practical exposure to the preparation of virgin coconut oil under the guidance of Dr. Pooja Kapoor (Subject Matter Specialist, Home Science, ICAR-KVK- South Andaman). Smti. Pinkey Kumari (Training and Research Specialist, SHEW) delivered a lecture on commercial potential of virgin coconut oil and encouraged the participants to take maximum benefit from the government schemes available for women entrepreneurs.
Further, promoting nutrition-sensitive farming practices, SHEW conducted a workshop on Establishment of Organic Nutri-Garden with Natural Farming concept on 20th June at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra- South Andaman. Dr. Y. Ramakrishna (Head, KVK- South Andaman), Dr. Zachariah George (Subject Matter Specialist, Animal Sciences) & Dr. Nitu Sindhu (State Mission Coordinator, SHEW) enlightened the participants on natural farming practices.
