Let’s Celebrate a Clean and Plastic-Free Independence Day Sale

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 14: Independence Day will be celebrated tomorrow (Aug. 15), and Aberdeen Bazaar and Junglighat are expected to witness large crowds and increased shopping activity. This often leads to a surge in the use of plastic bags and generation of waste.

All shopkeepers, vendors, stall owners and market associations have been requested to keep the following points in mind during the sale:

1. Do Not Provide Plastic Bags – Bring Your Own Bag

Stop using and selling banned plastic items. Use cloth or jute bags instead. Violations of the rules will attract fines, and inspections will be conducted.

2. Set Up Stalls Only in Designated Areas

Temporary shops or stalls should be set up only at locations specified by the Administration.

3. Keep Shops and Surroundings Clean

Maintain cleanliness in and around the shop. Ensure that a dustbin is kept on-site. Do not throw garbage on roads, footpaths or into drains.

4. Spread the Message

Inform customers and fellow shopkeepers about the importance of:

Segregating waste; Proper disposal of waste; and Reducing plastic usage.

“Celebrate Freedom, Not Plastic”

“Bring Your Own Bag – Keep the Islands Clean”

Let us all cooperate to make this Independence Day sale clean and plastic-free. This will help make Sri Vijaya Puram cleaner and healthier.
