Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 14: For the first time in the history of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Girls’ Football U-17 team is participating in the forthcoming 65th Subroto Mukherjee Cup International Football Tournament-2026 to be held at New Delhi from 18th to 27th August 2026. As Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School emerged as winner in the state level football tournament held in the 3rd week of April, 2026 and the players were undergoing rigorous and advance coaching under the supervision of qualified coach and Physical Education Teachers from 5th May 2026 at Netaji Stadium.
A blessing ceremony was held at Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram to send off the Girls team, wherein Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman as a chief guest extended her blessings and best wishes to the U-17 Girls Football Team in the presence of Smti. Archana Singh, Principal Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School. The chief guest also interacted with the players and officials, encouraged the young girl footballers to give their best, and wished them success in the championship. She expressed hope that the team would put up a commendable performance and make the Islands proud through their participation in the prestigious championship.
